The Beauty of a Summer Session | Paso Robles Family Photographer

May 29, 2019

I will be the first to admit that I love a good Fall Family photo. I love the way the colors are changing everywhere. I love that we finally get to break out our jeans and cozy boots. And I love the build up to the holiday season while visiting some of my favorite families on the Central Coast every weekend.

But man, I LOOOVVVEE a good summer session at the beach. Year after year, I tell myself I need to start the family photo “busy season” earlier next time. I’m usually so caught up in enjoying my time at home with my kiddos, that the entire summer passes me by before I know it.

Well this year, I’ve decided to change things up a bit. My family season is going to begin in July – and here are a few reasons why you might consider joining me:

1. The weather is less unpredictable.

Now I know the weather inland (especially in North County) can be pretty unbearable in the summer months, so you may be thinking I’m crazy for even suggesting a session then. But what better way to beat the heat, than to cool off on the coast. If 2018 taught me anything, it’s that weather in the fall can throw us for a loop at any point. If you’d rather not risk trying to reschedule due to wind and rain – then you might love a summer session!

2. Fall is a busy season of life.

I think it’s easy to forget sometimes just how busy Fall is. Between getting back in to the school year routine, working around sports schedules and getting ready for the upcoming holiday season – we don’t have much time to prepare ourselves for a photo session. How nice would it be to have one thing checked off your list and not have to stress about your Christmas card photo?

3.  Add some variety to your photos!

Do you ever feel like you’ve done the same photos and outfits year after year? Do you think maybe it’s time to change things up? Scheduling your session in the summer gives you the chance to have more freedom with your outfits choices. Have some fun with it! Put the kids in a big floppy hat or wear that beautiful beach kimono you’ve been living in all month. Summertime clothing accessories are the best!

4. Avoid the classroom “sickies”.

Every single year I have to reschedule probably 20% of my sessions due to little ones catching the germs in the classroom. It’s just the way life rolls in the fall. And while I completely understand the need to reschedule, it’s definitely difficult at times! My schedule is jam packed up until Thanksgiving which makes finding an available date hard to come by. Summertime is an all around “less congested” season – no pun intended.

5. Give yourself plenty of time to order prints.

Have you ever been that panicked client who had their photos taken the third week in November and now you are rushing to pick your favorite photos to have printed in the Black Friday sales?? I know some of you have been, because I’ve witnessed it every year! Wouldn’t it be nice to have your photos all picked out and ready to go when the time rolls around? The holidays are stressful enough as it is – why add one more thing to your plate?

6. Summertime is just plain fun.

Let’s face it. Life is much more carefree in the summer. Our kids are happier. Our lives are less routine driven. Bedtimes are more relaxed and our skin has that perfect sun-kissed glow. Summertime is the perfect time to capture the beauty of being carefree. I think it’s so easy to get caught up in the “Fall Family Session” craze. It’s a habit we are all so used to and sending out a Christmas card with a summertime scene displayed on the front seems downright wrong. Well today I am giving you permission to break free!
